Advice to the Young from Norman Foster

Advice to the Young from Norman Foster

Norman Foster, one of the architectural icons of our time, here advises upcoming architects and artists to make sure that what they’re doing is their true desire – if not, they should simply find something else. When you can’t imagine doing anything else, and you would do anything to be able to do it, then you know you’ve made the right decision. From then on it’s a matter of completely immersing yourself in that choice: You live it every living second of your life.

Advice to the Young from Olafur Eliasson

Advice to the Young from Olafur Eliasson

Artists should have confidence in the fact that making a drawing is changing the world. Danish-Icelandic artist, Olafur Eliasson, here presents his strong and personal advice to young artists. Making art is making the world, Eliasson continues, stressing his point that art should not be marginalized, as art is not fragile, but quite the opposite. Artists should be very sensitive to their surroundings and the context in which they find themselves. They should, however, also stay true to themselves and make sure that the strong market and its attractiveness does not commercialize them.

Advice to the Young from David Byrne

Advice to the Young from David Byrne

If the musician or artist values their freedom and the ability to be creative, then they have to realize they won’t be making hundreds of millions of dollars. Sound advice from the multifaceted musician David Byrne. If you value your creative freedom, you might have to do other work on the side, to make a living, Byrne explains: Often the artists who are very successful don’t have much flexibility. Advice to the Young from Fred Tomaselli

Advice to the Young from Fred Tomaselli

You might as well be true to what you want to do and not turn art into another day job. Watch Fred Tomaselli, a master of psychedelic artwork, advise artists to create their own art world instead of waiting for the established art scene to discover them. Don’t expect any material awards for what you do, and don’t try to adapt to a surrounding trend: If you’re doing something counter to the zeitgeist, that’s probably a good idea – you’re probably on the right path. If you’re doing what everybody else is doing – so what?

Advice to the Young from Jonathan Franzen

Advice to the Young from Jonathan Franzen

How do you succeed as a writer? Get useful, and humorous, advice from someone who indeed has indeed made it through the loophole – chart-topping American novelist Jonathan Franzen. If you hang out with me I would have a lot of advice. Although I would feel somewhat embarrassed about giving advice to the young writer, Franzen begins. The most important advice I have is to have fun… if you’re having fun there’s a good chance that the reader will too. Having fun, however, should be in the sense that there’s still a kind of structure and focus to it: Fun like you’re in a tennis court… That’s the kind of focused fun I’m talking about.

Poise in Silence

Poise in Silence

Rogier van der Weyden’s Portrait of a Lady radiates quiet dignity and introspection. Her downward gaze, finely folded hands, and elaborately veiled headdress create an atmosphere of restraint and devotion. Set against a dark void, the luminous skin and delicate textures emerge with reverent clarity. In slow motion, each detail of the curve of her fingers, the sheen of her wimple reveals the refined artistry of 15th-century Netherlandish painting. Traces of Becoming

Traces of Becoming

In Inspiration, Fabienne Verdier invites viewers into her meditative creative process, where movement and stillness coalesce. Drawing from her profound studies in Chinese calligraphy and her immersive experiences with music, Verdier employs monumental brushes suspended from her studio ceiling, channeling energy into sweeping gestures. This silent video captures the rhythm of her practice, revealing how each stroke becomes a dialogue between body, material, and space. The atmosphere is contemplative, emphasizing the harmony between physical motion and artistic expression. As viewers observe the flow of ink and the dance of the brush, they are encouraged to reflect on the essence of creation and the resonance of inspiration. Matamoe: The Last Light

Matamoe: The Last Light

Paul Gauguin’s Landscape with Peacocks (1892), also known by its Tahitian title Matamoe, meaning “death” or “once upon a time,” captures a poignant moment of transition. Painted during his first Tahitian sojourn, the work melds vibrant tropical hues with symbolic imagery, a solitary figure, resplendent peacocks, and a distant hut evoking themes of mortality and the fading of old worlds. The painting’s layered brushwork and rich palette invite viewers into a meditative exploration of life’s impermanence. This masterpiece resides in the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts in Moscow.

Yiannis Kranidiotis: Ichographs

Yiannis Kranidiotis is an artist whose work explores the relationship between science and art using mainly light, motion and sound to create spaces and experiences where all coexist and interact. Ichographs is a method of creating soundscapes using visual stimulus and the color-frequency transformation. The painting is transformed into the audio domain and back to visual producing a contemporary amalgamation. As we pass through the various color/frequency layers, we investigate the connections between classical aesthetics and the digital practice, revealing a latent version of the old masterpiece. The final artwork is a contemporary amalgamation of the old painting and the modern abstraction methods, a harmonious dialog between the old and the new, the analog and the digital.

Shadows of the Mind

Shadows of the Mind

Francisco de Goya’s Black Paintings emerge from the walls of his secluded Madrid home, the Quinta del Sordo, as raw expressions of inner torment and disillusionment. Painted between 1820 and 1823, these 14 murals, transferred to canvas decades later, plunge viewers into a realm of haunting imagery: a god devouring his child, silent processions, and spectral figures suspended in desolate landscapes. Rendered in somber tones and devoid of titles, these works were never meant for public eyes. Now housed in the Museo del Prado, they invite quiet contemplation of the human psyche’s darkest recesses.

Echoes of the Sublime

Echoes of the Sublime

Caspar David Friedrich’s landscapes of solitary figures gazing into mist, ruins swallowed by snow, capture a profound sense of longing and spiritual solitude. His art invites viewers to pause, reflect, and feel the vastness of nature and the fragility of human presence. In our era of climate anxiety, the term “solastalgia” names the grief of witnessing environmental loss without leaving home. This slow art video bridges Friedrich’s Romantic melancholy with modern ecological unease, offering a meditative space to contemplate beauty, impermanence, and the emotional terrain of a changing world. Solitude Vast

Solitude Vast

In Monk by the Sea (1808–1810), Caspar David Friedrich reduces the landscape to sea, sky, and a solitary figure stripped of detail, yet immense in emotional scope. The monk, dwarfed by the endless horizon, becomes a vessel for our reflection. In ikonoTV’s Slow Art format, this near-abstract scene lingers, allowing the viewer to experience its vast silence and sublime solitude. The emptiness is not desolation but an invitation to ponder, to feel, to simply be. Dream’s Shadow

Dream’s Shadow

In Henry Fuseli’s The Nightmare (1781), a woman lies draped in slumber, vulnerable and serene, while a demonic figure perches on her chest and a ghostly horse emerges from the shadows. Through ikonoTV’s Slow Art lens, this iconic vision of the unconscious unfolds with unsettling grace. Each detail, the satin folds, the oppressive stillness, the chiaroscuro deepens the eerie tension. This silent, lingering gaze transforms the painting into a psychological landscape, hovering between dream and dread.
