A documentary film by Claudia Müller which accompanies Jenny Holzer over the course of 10 years, at work and in numerous exhibitions, makes the artist’s art tangible as it traces her career, from the young artist putting up posters in New York in the late 1970s to the most influential female artist of today. Jenny Holzer’s work demonstrates that, while art may not be able to change the world, it can heighten our awareness of what surrounds us every day.

"The Ship of Tolerance" by Ilya & Emilia Kabakov

Since 2016, the Zug filmmaker Remo Hegglin documented the "The Ship of Tolerance" project in cooperation with the Kunsthaus Zug, with more than 2’000 participants, and numerous project partners. It included a whole region and attracted worldwide attention. First realized in the oasis town of Siwa in Egypt in 2005, the participatory project "The Ship of Tolerance" of Ilya and Emilia Kabakov has meanwhile made appearances in Venice, St. Moritz, Sharjah, Miami, Havana, New York, Moscow, Rome, and Rostock. With "The Ship of Tolerance", the internationally renowned artists seek to bring people of different continents, cultures and identities together by actively involving them in the project. Particularly important to them are the children.

A NEW COLOR by Mo Morris

From humble Harlem beginnings herself, the indefatigable Edy has for decades introduced underserved youth and seniors to the transformative power of art. Filmed in an observational style over three years, A New Color creates an opening to see the world through Edyís eyes and her artistic legacy commemorating the great events of her time. Those events keep coming, as we see when the death of Edyís nephew becomes a national symbol of racist policing. The persistence of racial inequality in this country evokes for activist artists like Edy powerful and deep questions: Have Edyís nearly eight decades of social justice work meant something? Has it been worth the sacrifice? Can building multicultural bridges through art bring about positive change? Who will carry on her civil rights legacy? Edyís reaction shows the depth of her clear-eyed, compassionate commitment to building a just and peaceful community. A New Color illuminates timely social issues and shows how the work of one resilient woman reverberates throughout a community to inspire a powerful chorus: ìOur lives matter and we will not be disempowered by those who judge us for our age, gender, or color of our skin. An intimate portrait of somebody extraordinary, Edytheís story shows not what it is to be Black or to lose a loved one, but what it is to be human.

GOING ATTRACTIONS by April Wright

"Going Attractions" celebrates the splendor and grandeur of the great cinemas of the United States, built when movies were the acme of entertainment and the stories were larger than life, as were the venues designed to show them: Thousands of seats, giant screens, exotic and ornate interiors with balconies and lounges, in-house organs and orchestras, amazing marquees, and air conditioning back when houses had none. The film also tracks the eventual decline of the palaces, through to todayís current preservation efforts. A tribute to Americaís great art form and the great monuments created for audiences to enjoy them in.

Impossible Light by Jeremy Ambers

On March 5th, 2013, San Franciscoís skyline was transformed by an amazing sight: 25,000 LED lights that, for perhaps the first time save the 1989 earthquake, caused people to consider the Bay Bridge instead of her iconic sister. How did this happen? Who was behind the eight million-dollar installation? How in the world did they pull it off? The story behind the making of The Bay Lights a project whose very ìimpossibility made it possibleîóanswers these questions, revealing the drama and the daring of artist Leo Villareal and a small team of visionaries who battle seemingly impossible challenges to turn a dream of creating the worldís largest LED light sculpture into a glimmering reality.

WHO BY WATER

"Who by Water" is a recut of Luc Perez’ last short film "the Drowned" made during the lockdown in Danemark. The idea was to delete the film characters and dialogues to keep only empty places. The Danish village Marstal, is becoming a empty town anted by its own ghosts and maritime history. For the past two decades, Luc Perez has been focusing mainly on animation and have developed his very own technique – a mix between analog painting and computer compositing. He does everything by himself, except the soundtrack, from the first script draft, storyboard, animatic, design, editing to post production. He has achieved several works for other directors from all around the world, who wanted to integrate animated sequences in their films or documentaries, such as Wolfgang Becker (Good Bye, Lenin!) or Raed Andony (Best Documentary at the 67th Berlinale).

DON’T WORRY... by Oksana Karpovych

Oksana Karpovych’s film, "Don’t Worry, the doors will open" was shot over summer 2018 on elektrychkas, typical Soviet commuter trains that travel between the Ukrainian capital Kyiv and small provincial towns. This film invites us to share a ride with working class, mostly marginalized passengers and vendors. Following a number of people from one grimy wagon to another, from station to station, from day to night, we are immersed in the daily struggles of their lives. Filmed during a war time, the film is a look at the human condition and an intimate point of view on history of independent Ukraine as it is experienced by the common people. We do not see images of war in the film but feel its presence in the air penetrating our character’s minds and hearts. Don’t Worry, the Doors Will Open is an atmospheric and intensely human portrait of Ukrainian society on the move.

At Frida Kahlo’s

«The Blue House,» located in Mexico City, is the home where Frida Kahlo was born (1907) and would die (1954). Elliott Erwitt, Silence sounds good

Elliott Erwitt is a legend photographer, worldwide renowned for his photos portraying superstars like Marilyn Monroe, Jackie Kennedy, Sophia Loren…and politicians including the last eleven American presidents, Che Guevara.. He is also known for his reports from all over the world, his role in the Magnum Photos agency, and his emblematic pictures shedding light on the violence of the US segregation. Yan Pei-Ming, Face to Face

Red guard during the Cultural Revolution in China, Ming was at one time a painter for Maoist propaganda, before coming to France to study at the School of Fine Arts. He has become a major figure in the contemporary art world. Classical and academic painter, Ming has revisited many different styles, drawing inspiration from the great masters. His work includes a Mona Lisa tryptic, some erotic paintings, and even portraits of Marylin Monroe, Prince Charles or Jacques Chirac. After the Louvre, his work is going to be added to the collections of the Petit Palais and the Musée d’Orsay, hanging beside other great masters. This film showcases his consecration: Ming is a star. THE WORLD WITHIN A PAINTING

The world within a painting or Vermeer’s hat is loosely based on the famous book by Canadian writer, Timothy Brook, Vermeer’s Hat, we offer a new way of understanding the global world we live in thanks to… a 17th-century painting. A simple, apparently anecdotal painting, far from being one of the Dutch painter’s most famous, entitled Officer and Laughing Girl painted in 1650. A charming scene in which an officer, wearing a wide-brimmed hat, talks with a young woman who is holding a glass of wine in her hand. The scene is set in one of the household interiors of which Vermeer was so fond. A film by Nicolas Autheman.
