Manifesto71 , slash and burn

Short film by Enrico Casagrande about the controversial practice of debbio (slash and burns), still widely used today in the campanias of the Po Valley. Debbio is the practice of burning the soil after harvesting, both to speed up fertilization through the burning of residual shrubs and to prevent possible diseases from lingering in the soil. The element of fire, its march, and the smoke enveloping the field, become the elements that give rhythm to the film, a kind of symphony inspired by De Seta’s short films.

The film portrays the layers of Lyn’s metaphoric and physical journey in a lost crate through an atmospheric alignment of painting, music and classical ballet. The project started on December 12th, 2019, with 100 genetically modified Salmo Salar eggs at the Institute of Marine Research (IMR) in Matre, Norway, and culminated with 16 salmons on March 3rd, 2022.
