Grow by Daan Roosegaarde

How can cutting-edge light design help plants grow more sustainably? How can we make the farmer the hero? Daan Roosegaarde’s artwork GROW is an homage to the beauty of agriculture and is inspired by scientific light recipes which improve plants’ growth and resilience. GROW consists of a design-based light recipe that shines vertically across 20,000m2 of farmland with leek (Allium porrum). You experience the artwork as ‘dancing lights’ across a huge agricultural field. The light is poetic, and inspired by photobiology light science technologies which have shown that certain recipes of blue, red, and ultraviolet light can enhance plant growth and reduce the use of pesticides by up to 50 percent.

The Final Match

This short film by Saman Salur, an Iranian film director and screenwriter. Two girls, Maryam and Sara, walk through town after school and, behind a car, change their dark school uniform with a Western look. Along an alley, they see football matches on screens in a shop window and are very excited about this male-dominated sport that they are not allowed to play. When they pass a football court, where some boys are playing, the ball comes to a stop in front of Maryam’s foot. After the boys start mocking the girls, Maryam shoots the ball very professionally and makes a goal, to everybody’s amazement. Some days later, the girls discuss about a football match they arranged for that day. Sara is scared and thinks about placing watch-posts while they play, in order to avoid boys mocking them while they play. Later, the two girls are playing football with other teenage girls on the roof of a building, hidden from everybody. The only sound you can hear is the joyous shouting of the girls who have scored.

Yadegar Asisi, during the period of upheaval that followed the Islamic Revolution, had the opportunity to appear on Iranian television. He acted out a pantomime. The performance raises the question of whether a single revolution is enough to secure freedom. Originally positive ideas turn against the free development of people in the course of time. What has happened in Iran since 1979 is one of many examples from history. Once won, freedom must be permanently defended or won by a new by each generation. This film is in 3 parts: it starts with « Nightmare of a non-political », from 9mn30, there is « Dream of a Political » and ends from 16.62 watch « Pantomine of freedom »

"Passage - in the Wake of the World" is an evolving trans-disciplinary art project conceived long-distance by artist Angela Lyn (Lugano, CH) in collaboration with composer Jesse Bannister (London, UK) and choreographer Durante Verzola (Miami, US). The project is an artistic enquiry into the uncertainties and fragilities, fears and hopes, contradictions and paradoxes in pace with our times. The film portrays the layers of Lyn’s metaphoric and physical journey in a lost crate through an atmospheric alignment of painting, music and classical ballet. It was filmed at Chambers Fine Art, New York, by Filmerei, Zurich.
