View of Delft

The life and art of Johannes Vermeer are closely associated with the city of Delft. It has been postulated that many of his paintings were concentrated in the collection of a patron in that city who seems to have had a special relationship with the artist. Little is known about Vermeer’s life other than it was centered in his home city of Delft, shown here in this fantastic work. The interplay of light and shade, the impressive cloudy sky and the subtle reflections in the water make this painting an absolute masterpiece.
