The San Salvador altarpiece is a wonder. It is located since the 16th century on the main altar of the church of San Salvador, but ‘screened’ – like theatre scenery – by Titian’s painting of the Transfiguration of Christ, and is revealed only during the three festivals of Christmas, Easter, and the Transfiguration. Very few, including Venetians, know of the existence of this very precious masterpiece.
