Sami lives in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. A learned man in his fifties, he is completing his life’s work: the translation of an anthology of Greek mythology into Amharic. But Sami has no fixed address and his primary concern is survival in the sprawling metropolis. Sometimes aided by bosses, sheltered and fed by friends, sometimes forced to beg, Sami tirelessly navigates the turbulent waters of Addis. His new obsession is to get his work published, so he can share with his fellow citizens the intrigues of the Olympian gods, the love of Zeus and Semele, the fateful confrontation between Diana and Actaeon… But in the publishing jungle, amidst the economic hardship and political turmoil that grip present-day Ethiopia, who would be interested in this monumental project? After nineteen years of solitary labor, will he finally reach the end of his undertaking?
