The Lady with an Ermine is a stunning portrait painted by Leonardo da Vinci around 1489 to 1491. The subject is Cecilia Gallerani, the young mistress of Ludovico Sforza, Duke of Milan. Painted on a walnut wood panel using oil, this work is one of only four surviving portraits of women by Leonardo, alongside the Mona Lisa and a few others. Now housed in the Czartoryski Museum in Kraków, Poland, the painting is considered a national treasure. It was brought to Poland in 1798 by the Czartoryski family and remains part of the Princes Czartoryski Collection, which was acquired by the Polish government in 2016.
