Since 1996, Jakob Roepke has crafted small-scale collage paintings each a world of its own. Using gouache and ink, he builds intricate scenes from fragments of scientific books, patterned paper, and historical manuals. These intimate compositions pulse with quiet tension, as silhouetted figures navigate surreal spaces of action and ritual. In the Slow Art format, each plate becomes a meditative puzzle layered, symbolic, and slightly uncanny. Roepke’s work invites us to linger, decode, and dwell in the space where the familiar meets the mysterious.
